Here he asks two questions: How do rivers reach the tops of mountains, given that water moves on its own only when it descends? Does the great Deluge adequately account for the presence of seashells and aquatic fossils on mountaintops? Leonardo approaches the first question by applying Aristotelian theories of movement and the second by challenging the traditional biblical account.
